明广东顺德人，字叔厚，号厚斋，晚号郁洲。成化十四年进士第一，授编修。正德时累迁为吏部尚书，华盖殿大学士，内阁首辅。时营建殿房甚多，所费巨万，储屡上书切谏。又请早立储君，不报。宁王朱宸濠叛，帝自南征，储等扈从。群小欲导帝游浙西、江汉。储等跪谏行宫门外，乃许不日还京。世宗即位，被劾乞归。卒年七十七，谥文康。有《郁洲遗稿》。
