明景泰二年（1451）状元及第，历任翰林院修撰，右春坊、右中允、詹事府少詹事兼翰林学士掌院事。奉命主持两京乡试一科、礼部会试二科，任东宫讲官、侍经筵等职。柯潜作品 所为文章、平妥整洁，诗律清婉。潜著有《竹岩集》一卷，文集一卷，及补遗一卷，均收录于《四库全书》，其诗冲澹清婉，文亦峻整有法。
