福建莆田人，字汝华。弘治六年进士。授户部主事。累迁江西左布政使。宁王朱宸濠夺大量民田，民立寨自保，宸濠欲加兵，岳持不可。后为李梦阳所讦，夺官为民。世宗即位，起抚江西。旋召为大理卿，陈刑狱失平八事，迁兵部左侍郎。后乞休归。有《莆阳文献》、《山斋集》。
