浙江浦江人，名丁，以字行。洪武初征为国子监学录，与修《元史》。书成，授国子学录，历礼部主事、太常司丞。刘基尝告太祖，孟兼文章，仅次于宋濂及基。出为山西按察司佥事，惩治奸猾，令相牵引，每事辄株连数十人，吏民皆畏。擢山东按察司副使，布政使吴印系僧人还俗，孟兼轻侮之。印告太祖，太祖怒而杀之。有《白石山房逸稿》。
