译文
这樵夫腰间的斧子不同寻常，斧柄曾因观看仙人下棋而朽坏，斧面则为修月的需要磨得铮亮。他从不去破坏连理的树木，利钢的锋刃自不会损伤。猿猴攀立的枝条再险，野鹤筑巢的大树再高，他都施展身手，从不轻放。那崎岖的石涧，那泞滑的泥坡，他已司空见惯，站立得稳稳当当。他看破了浮名虚利，不受欲念的影响。白云外畅怀高歌，坦坦荡荡。

满庭芳·樵鉴赏
起首五句，从樵夫随身不离的工具——斧子入手，先是运用了两则古代的典故。一则是观看仙人下棋，以致烂了斧柄；一则是飞上天空，修磨七宝月轮：都是充满神奇夸张色彩的传说。可见作者是借物而寓现意境，暗衬出樵夫的不同凡俗：他饱阅世事，所谓“五百年来棋一局，闲看数着烂樵柯”（徐渭《题王质烂柯图》）；身手不凡，所谓“从来修月手，合在广寒宫”（苏轼《正月一日雪中过淮谒客》）。咏“樵”而点涉“棋”、“月”，也说明这位樵夫具有雅士的素质。接着的两句，“不将连理枝梢锉，无缺钢多”，是巧妙的双关。表面上它仍是写斧，不去砍伐连理枝梢，故不至于锋刃卷缺。但其实质的含意，读者一目了然：连理枝是人间爱情和美好事物的象征，樵夫对它们爱惜有加，足见他是以仁德和正义为己身追求的有心人。这两句更明显地闪动着人物的身影，为下文对樵夫的直接描写，作了不露痕迹的过渡。
六、七两句对仗，形象而深刻地绘述了樵夫的日常活动。猿猴出没于深山悬崖，“猿枝”极言樵伐之险；野鹤在大树的枝梢上筑巢栖居，“鹤窠”极言山木之高。而樵夫涉险攀高，视同等闲，“不饶过”见出了他的勇敢坚决。山中涧谷乱石崎岖，坡坂泞滑难以驻足，而无论是“石涧”还是“泥坡”，樵夫都如履平地。“惯立尽”三字，体现出他知难而进的无畏气概。
如果说以上的七句已将樵夫的樵薪生活与正直刚强的品格作了充分的表述，那么结尾的三句，无疑是作者歌赞和审美的最强音。作者赞美樵夫，不仅是因为他是生活的强者，更是出于他在精神上的超越。“还参破，名缰利锁，云外放怀歌”，就活脱脱地表现出了一位蔑视名利、傲睨尘俗的高士形象。“云外”二字意兼虚实，既表樵夫的实际处所，又表出他的脱俗风神。元曲中常有对“不识字烟波钓叟”（白朴《沉醉东风·渔父词》）的赞美向慕，本篇这位“放怀歌云外樵夫”，是足以与之比并的。
