为善最乐的典故

刘苍是刘秀的儿子，建武十五年封东平公，十七年進爵为王。刘苍博学多才，汉明帝对他很器重，每次外出巡视，都把京城交给他管理。刘苍虽然地位很高，却毫无骄奢淫逸的贵族习气，而且很关心百姓的生活，还常常提醒汉明帝，为东汉初年的“太平盛世”作出了重要贡献。

由于他品德浑厚、待人至诚，声望也越来越高，他非常不安，多次请求辞去职务，想回他的封地东平国（今山东东平县），汉明帝拖了很久才答应。

回东平后，刘苍仍对国家大事提了许多有益的见解。汉明帝很关心他，有一次问他在家里做什么最开心，刘苍说：“为善最乐”
