春秋时期，鲁哀公问孔子的弟子宰我用什么树木制作土地神神主，宰我回答夏朝人用松木，殷代人用柏木，周代人用栗木，栗木就是让人害怕。孔子听到这种回答十分不满，责备宰我说：“成事不说，遂事不谏，既往不咎。”
