贪生怕死的典故

梁国是西汉的一个诸侯国。西汉末年，刘立被封为梁王。他荒淫残暴，鱼肉百姓，割据一方，为所欲为。汉成帝驾崩，哀帝即位后，刘立更加恣意妄为，无视朝廷法制，任意杀害下属中郎曹将等人。哀帝知道后，十分生气，派官员去审理此案。刘立假装生病，卧床不起。办案官员于是透露风声说，哀帝将要下旨收缴梁王的印玺，并要将他囚禁起来。刘立这时才意识到事态严重，连忙取下王冠，跪在地上请罪。他说自己犯罪是因为自幼失去父母，在宫中受到宦官、宫女的影响，染上了恶习；而一些大臣也经常在哀帝面前搬弄是非，以致哀帝对自己感到不满。接着，他又说：“我杀了中郎曹将，原想现在冬季快过去，新春大赦就要到了，我害怕被处死，所以想假装生病，拖到明年春天就可以得到赦免。”果然，到了第二年春天，哀帝大赦天下，刘立侥幸逃脱了处罚。后来王莽篡夺汉朝政权后，刘立被废为平民，不久便自杀而死。
